چکیده
Despite concern around plastic pollution in subtropical gyres, our understanding of the biological component neustonic layer (upper 20 cm ocean) these areas is poor. Here we investigate neuston (excluding copepods) assemblages across Southern Indian Subtropical Gyre using triplicate samples collected by manta-trawls from 28 stations along a transect at latitude S during June/July 2015. The vertical structure water column each station was assessed CTD. With exception siphonophores, all non-copepod were identified to morphospecies. Assemblages dominated ostracods, mysids, larval chaetognaths and siphonophores. majority specimens comprised facultative neuston, which more common night than day. Neuston east quite distinct balance samples, their distribution reflected that warm, low salinity associated with Indonesian Throughflow. Two anticyclonic eddies had been documented time survey between 70 85° E, this area assemblage generally abundance. key environmental factors linked longitude – salinity, fluorescence temperature 200 m, emphasising interaction Throughflow Water South Equatorial Current, eddy-related process settlement meroplankton. study highlights value morphospecies studies plankton assemblages.

Spatial Distribution, Structure, Biomass, and Physiology of Microbial Assemblages across the Southern Ocean Frontal Zones during the Late Austral Winter.
We examined the spatial distributions of picoplankton, nanoplankton, and microplankton biomass and physiological state relative to the hydrography of the Southern Ocean along 90 degrees W longitude and across the Drake Passage in the late austral winter. The eastern South Pacific Ocean showed some large-scale biogeographical differences and size class variability. Microbial ATP biomass was grea...
متن کاملPopulation Genetic Structure of Patagonian Toothfish in the West Indian Ocean Sector of the Southern Ocean
Molecular markers were used to investigate the stock structure of Patagonian toothfi sh (Dissostichus eleginoides) in the West Indian Ocean sector of the Southern Ocean. Four collections of D. eleginoides from Kerguelen (n = 1), Crozet (n = 1) and Prince Edward and Marion (n = 2) Islands were typed using two fragments of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and seven nuclear microsatellite loci. MtDNA hap...
متن کاملTemporal Variability of Trichodesmium spp. and Diatom-Diazotroph Assemblages in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre
In oligotrophic ocean regions such as the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre (NPSG), N2 fixation (i.e., diazotrophy) by a diverse consortium of microorganisms has been shown to contribute significantly to new production and particle export. In 2015 and 2016, we measured near-monthly abundances of the large cell-sized (> 10μm) diazotrophic genera Trichodesmium and diatom-associated Richelia and Calo...

متن کاملMetazooplankton distribution across the Southern Indian Ocean with emphasis on the role of Larvaceans
The abundance and depth distribution of metazoans .20 mm were investigated at seven stations across the Southern Indian Ocean (SIO), October–November 2006. Copepod nauplii, copepodites and larvaceans dominated the metazooplankton community. Copepodites were most abundant within Agulhas Current and Southern Ocean waters, decreasing toward subtropical/tropical areas, whereas larvaceans showed the...
